2009 RJW held a gala to celebrate the collection of medical equipment

On Saturday April 4, 2009, RJW held a gala to celebrate the collection of medical equipment worth $100,000 to be shipped to Mukurweini Hospital in Nyeri, Kenya. The medical equipment collected included catheters, stents, syringes, gauzes, scalpels, forceps, drips, and orthopedic rehabilitation equipment. At the event, we recognized the efforts of three people, Vickie Migues, RTR Chief Radiographer at Johns Hopkins, Anita Smith, RN at Johns Hopkins, and  Dr. Tom Keane, Radiology resident at Johns Hopkins who spent countless hours procuring the equipment. At the celebratory gala we also held a “Harambee” – a Kenyan style fundraiser – and raised nearly $1700 from small contributions to pay for the costs associated with shipping the medical equipment to rural Kenya. The equipment was shipped on April 29, 2009 and is expected in Mombasa, Kenya on June 2009.
